A month after its launch, a small percentage of players of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered have completed the main questline. This isn't surprising for a game of this caliber, as fans are deeply engaged in various other activities.

I'm among those fans! Since the game's shadow-drop on April 22, I've been immersed in Oblivion Remastered. After escaping the sewers and handing the Amulet of Kings to Jauffre at Weynon Priory, I've deliberately steered clear of the main questline. Instead, I've joined the Fighters Guild, explored the vast landscapes of Cyrodiil, and tackled numerous side quests. I even attempted to break out of the map boundaries, inspired by another player's feat.

Why the detour? The side quests in Oblivion are incredibly engaging (no spoilers here!), and I'm intentionally avoiding the main quest and its challenging segments, such as Kvatch, while keeping my level progression slow.

PlayMy plan is to savor *Oblivion* until I'm ready to tackle the main storyline. But with a Bethesda game like this, there's no "proper" way to play. That's the beauty of it—you can do whatever you want, whenever you want, and the game still feels rewarding.

Many other players are following a similar path. "I'm BUSY doing OTHER STUFF like hunting for SLAUGHTERFISH in Lake Rumare," shared the aptly named redditor MrCrispyFriedChicken in response to the completion stats. "I spend 160 hours in already and Kvatch is still waiting for me," added Roffear. "I'm one of those weirdos who actually likes the Oblivion gates so I purposefully don't finish the main quest until I've found all 60 gates in my world and closed them," said Ellert0. "44 hours and an actual in-game year, and I haven't even been to Weynon Priory," said PlayaHatinIG-88. "Those poor Kvatch city guards never stood a chance."

At the time of writing, only 2.97% of Xbox players and 4.4% of Steam players had completed Oblivion Remastered's main questline. The lower completion rate on Xbox might be due to Game Pass players trying out the game briefly before moving on, whereas Steam users are more committed, having purchased the game outright.

Despite Oblivion Remastered attracting over 4 million players, the completion rate remains low. This trend is common across many video games, from expansive RPGs like Oblivion Remastered to shorter experiences like Call of Duty. Many gamers don't stick around after the initial hour or tutorial, reflecting the diverse and often transient nature of gaming interests.

The stats for Oblivion Remastered might be influenced by the fact that it's a remaster of a classic game. Players who finished the original 20 years ago might now prefer to explore the enhanced visuals and new features rather than replaying the main quest. Some, like one player who spent seven hours arranging books for a Dominoes effect, are finding new ways to enjoy the game.

Thaddeus122, nearly 100 hours into the game, hadn't completed three of the main quests but had finished the Arena and the Mages Guild. Their time was spent on leveling up, accumulating wealth for homes, closing all the Oblivion gates, the Nirnroot quest, and various smaller quests, all without using fast travel.
