Sony's latest financial report reveals a new PlayStation 5 sales milestone, with total worldwide shipments reaching 80.3 million units.
This figure, current as of June 30, 2025, includes an additional 2.5 million consoles shipped during the previous quarter — a marginal year-on-year increase for the same period.
PlayStation Network also showed strong performance, with 123 million active subscribers reflecting a growth of seven million compared to the previous year.
Combined sales of PS5 and PS4 games reached 65.9 million units last quarter — a year-on-year increase of 12.3 million. First-party Sony titles contributed 6.9 million units to this total, up 900,000 from the same period last year.
After five years on the market, the PS5 is quickly approaching the lifetime sales of the Xbox 360 (approximately 84 million) and PS3 (87 million), though several other consoles remain well ahead.
Sony’s PS2 maintains its position as the best-selling console of all time with 160 million units sold. The Nintendo Switch follows with 153 million, while the PS4 and original PlayStation trail at 117 million and 102 million, respectively.
The potential for additional PS5 sales this generation largely depends on its remaining lifespan, with one report pointing to a possible PS6 launch in 2027.
