Ubisoft is setting sail for an ambitious Year 2 for Skull and Bones, promising to elevate the pirate multiplayer experience with significant new content. The roadmap includes new gameplay modes, ships, and the long-awaited introduction of a Kraken, but the highlight is undoubtedly the addition of land combat.
During a special Year 2 showcase that aired yesterday, Ubisoft unveiled its plans for the coming year. The presentation was filled with exciting updates, but it's Season 3: Guts and Glory, launching this fall, that has fans most excited. This season will introduce the much-requested land combat feature, allowing players to engage in swordfights and gun battles on land. As part of the Rogue Warlord additions, players will explore sandy beaches and damp caves to rescue skilled Officers. A teaser video gave a glimpse of what's to come, though full details will be revealed later this year.
While land combat stands out as the biggest addition, Skull and Bones Year 2 is packed with more to keep players engaged throughout 2025. Season 1: Ascent into Chaos, which begins today on April 15, introduces an item ascension feature to enhance loot, challenging World Tiers, a new Schooner medium ship, and the team-based Death Tides PvP mode. Season 2: Oaths of War, set for summer 2025, will bring Megaforts and the massive Frigate large ships. Finally, Season 4: Eye of the Beast, arriving this winter, will introduce the Kraken, the Hunter’s Guild, and the Corvette large ship.
If these updates pique your interest, you're in luck. Skull and Bones is hosting a free weekend from April 17 to 21, giving players a chance to experience the pirate PvP firsthand. Additionally, the game will be available at a discounted price during this period, though the exact discount has not yet been announced.
Skull and Bones launched on February 16, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S, receiving a 7/10 in our review. While Ubisoft has kept official sales figures under wraps, they did mention "record player engagement" shortly after the game's release. Interestingly, the launch of Skull and Bones also saw a 200% surge in players of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
