Feral Interactive has released a significant update for Total War: Medieval II on iOS and Android, introducing two eagerly awaited features. Named Hotseats & Halberds, this patch brings Hotseat multiplayer mode and extensive late-game balance improvements.
Total War: Medieval II’s Hotseat Mode allows multiple players to engage in competitive or cooperative campaigns by taking turns on one device. Previously featured in the Kingdoms expansion on desktop, it now debuts on mobile with enhanced functionality.
Hotseat Mode is available in both the Grand Campaign and Kingdoms expansion, offering standard, full co-op, or a new battle royale variant. The battle royale mode awards points for military strength, population, and other metrics, with an auto-elimination feature to heighten intensity.
To streamline multiplayer sessions, the update includes optional tweaks for faster campaigns. Diplomats travel farther, buildings cost less and build quicker, and major events like the Mongol invasion occur earlier.
On the battlefield, the Halberds update overhauls underperforming late-era units. Pike formations gain a new Cohesion mechanic, enabling them to maintain ranks and repel enemies effectively until morale breaks.

Units like Zweihanders and Daneaxe warriors now feature Cohesion Disruption, making them perfect for shattering enemy formations. Halberdiers receive upgrades, positioning them as strong alternatives to spearmen with improved stats and better resistance to cavalry charges. Gunpowder units, including musketeers and arquebusiers, also benefit from faster firing rates due to AI and formation adjustments.
