索尼宣佈美國地區PlayStation 5漲價

Sony has announced price increases of $50 for the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, and PlayStation 5 Pro, effective in the U.S. tomorrow, August 21.

The standard PS5 with a disc drive will now cost $549.99, an increase of $50, while the PS5 Digital Edition will rise by the same amount to $499.99. The PS5 Pro will also see a $50 price hike, reaching $749.99.

"Similar to many global businesses, we continue to navigate a challenging economic environment," said Isabelle Tomatis, Vice President of Global Marketing at Sony Interactive Entertainment, in a statement released today. "As a result, we’ve made the difficult decision to raise the recommended retail price for PlayStation 5 consoles in the U.S. beginning on August 21."

The price adjustments come amid global market volatility driven by U.S. tariffs, following similar moves by other gaming companies like Nintendo, which recently raised the price of the original Nintendo Switch.

Sony previously increased the PS5’s price in the UK, mainland Europe, Australia, and New Zealand earlier this year, after an earlier price hike in 2022.

Earlier today, Microsoft drew attention by not revealing a price for the ROG Xbox Ally X alongside its release date. In a conversation with IGN, Asus, the device’s manufacturer, stated it needed additional time to assess current macro-economic factors before finalizing the gaming handheld’s pricing.

No other changes were announced today by Sony regarding PlayStation 5 accessories or PS5 consoles in other regions.
