Bungie has acknowledged it's currently re-recording certain dialogue lines in Destiny 2 to bring back original voice performances for key characters including Vanguard leader Ikora Rey.

Following the release of The Edge of Fate - the inaugural expansion in the Year of Prophecy storyline - players noticed Ikora Rey, previously voiced by Gina Torres, now sounded remarkably similar to Savathun from The Witch Queen. This similarity occurs because Debra Wilson, Savathun's voice actor, temporarily took over the role.

While Bungie had previously informed players about pending English voice casting changes for Orin, Chioma, and Ikora back in May, the studio clarified on July 15 that although the original cast had scheduling conflicts during The Edge of Fate's recording period, they're now working to re-record affected character lines. Although no specific timeline has been set, Bungie confirmed these updates will arrive in a forthcoming patch.

The temporary solution means players may still encounter unfamiliar voice performances or even silent NPC interactions during this transition period. As with Destiny 2: Heresy, these temporary instances will feature enabled subtitles for narrative content.

While not directly addressing the SAG-AFTRA performers' strike, Bungie mentioned resolution of "conflicts" coinciding with SAG-AFTRA lifting its strike over AI protections. The SAG-AFTRA strike began in July 2024 when negotiations broke down between the union and major gaming companies - including Activision, EA, and WB Games - regarding AI usage protections. An overwhelming 98% of members voted to authorize the work stoppage.

Bungie's recent Destiny 2 roadmap revealed ambitious plans for the Year of Prophecy, featuring two premium expansions alongside significant seasonal updates accessible to all players. This marks the first time four major content releases (two paid expansions and two free updates) will anchor Destiny 2's annual cycle.

The studio continues balancing multiple projects beyond Destiny. After unveiling its Marathon reboot in May 2023, development faced challenges including a controversial alpha test and allegations of plagiarized content within the game. These issues prompted widespread discussion about the project's potential impact on Bungie's future, leading to the studio's recent decision to delay Marathon indefinitely based on player feedback.
