The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) has finally introduced a feature that fans have been eagerly awaiting for over a decade: subclasses. Dive into the details of this game-changing update and what's in store for the future of ESO.

As part of its 10th Anniversary celebrations, The Elder Scrolls Online is set to revolutionize player experience with the introduction of subclasses. Announced during the ESO Direct 2025 event on April 10, this eagerly anticipated feature will allow players to mix and match skill lines from different classes, a request that has been echoing in the community for years.
In the past, whenever a new skill tree was added, players had to start anew to access the latest content, which could be frustrating in an MMO. The new subclass system will change this by allowing players who reach level 50 to retain one skill line from their base class and swap out two others with skill lines from any of the other six classes. This opens up an astonishing 3000 unique combinations, enabling players to truly tailor their playstyle to their preferences.
ESO Game Director Rich Lambert expressed confidence in the new feature, noting that extensive testing has been conducted. Despite potential increases in Power Levels, Lambert believes the team has achieved a balanced implementation.

ZeniMax Online Studios is also introducing a new approach to content delivery with seasonal updates. Studio Director Matt Firor explained that this shift will allow the team to experiment more with content and address player feedback more dynamically. "We want to keep telling great stories, but also mix in new ideas and gameplay systems," Firor said, emphasizing the goal of increasing variety and focus.
The upcoming chapter, "Seasons of the Worm Cult," marks a significant milestone as a sequel to the game's original Molag Bal storyline. Set on the new Isle of Solstice zone, players will delve into the resurgence of the Worm Cult. Producer Susan Kath noted that while the initial season will span most of the year, future seasons will typically last 3 to 6 months. ZeniMax plans to revisit past storylines with "remix" seasons, teasing a Dark Brotherhood-themed season on the horizon.
On April 11, ESO took to Twitter (X) to announce the 2025 Content Pass and Premium Edition, which will include all past and upcoming content. The pass includes:
Both editions come with exclusive collectibles:
Additionally, upon the release of Seasons of the Cult Part 1 in June, players will unlock a unique mount, pet, and memento.

The Premium Edition offers access to all previously released Chapters and Classes, from Morrowind to Gold Road, and includes the base-game Classes, Warden, Necromancer, and Arcanist.
With its 10th anniversary celebrations, ESO continues to expand its rich narrative and engage its supportive community. By revisiting past storylines, the game aims to tie up loose ends and deepen its lore. The Elder Scrolls Online is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
