DeNA, the developer behind Pokemon TCG Pocket, has pledged to revamp the game's trading system following significant player criticism. Discover what sparked the community's dissatisfaction with the current trading mechanics.

Players expressed widespread frustration when Pokemon TCG Pocket launched its trading feature on January 29, 2025, leading DeNA to announce forthcoming changes via Twitter on February 1. The highly anticipated system permitted trades of 1-4 Diamond cards and 1-Star rarity cards from Genetic Apex and Mythical Island packs.
While beneficial for completing collections, the system's limitations—including restrictive card selections, a new in-game currency, and steep trade costs—triggered negative feedback from the player base.

Responding to complaints, DeNA confirmed they're "exploring improvements to address these issues," including introducing alternative methods to acquire trade tokens through special events. Currently, trading remains limited to 1-Star cards.
The token system requires players to sacrifice higher-rarity cards, creating an imbalanced economy. For example, trading a 4-Diamond card demands 500 tokens, while sacrificing a 1-Star card yields merely 100 tokens. This forces collectors to deplete valuable resources for basic trades.

DeNA defended the stringent rules as necessary safeguards: "These measures prevent bot abuse and multi-account exploitation while preserving collection integrity—the heart of the Pokemon TCG experience." The developer emphasized their commitment to fair gameplay while hinting at undisclosed future adjustments.

The January 29 launch of Space-Time Smackdown booster packs raised additional concerns when Genetic Apex packs appeared absent from the home screen—visible only via a discreet "Select other booster packs" option in the bottom-right corner.
Many players overlooked this subtle interface element, sparking theories about the original booster pack's disappearance. Some speculated this was a marketing tactic to promote the new releases, though collectors still working on Genetic Apex sets found the situation frustrating.

Community members suggested making all three pack sets visible on the main screen to improve clarity. While DeNA hasn't officially addressed the interface concerns, players can still access Genetic Apex packs through the alternate menu and continue their collection efforts.
