The extraction shooter set in the Far Cry universe, taking place in Alaska, has undergone a complete reboot, according to a report by Insider Gaming. Previously known under the codename Project Maverick, the game was initially envisioned as a multiplayer expansion for Far Cry 7. However, following an internal review, the project underwent substantial changes. Despite receiving positive feedback from employees and testers, Ubisoft's leadership decided to redirect most of the resources to Project Blackbird (Far Cry 7). The final decision to abandon the multiplayer component came when the technical team was reassigned to other tasks.
The responsibility for the project has now been transferred to Ubisoft Sherbrooke, a studio renowned for its development support. Nearly the entire original development team has been moved to work on the next installment of Far Cry.

According to insider Tom Henderson (as of mid-December 2024), Far Cry 7 aims to immerse players in an atmosphere of tension and desperation, with time serving as the central antagonist. The storyline will focus on the protagonist’s family being kidnapped by a mysterious conspiracy cult conducting grotesque experiments involving hallucinogens on animals and children. Players will have to rescue their loved ones within a strict in-game time limit of 72 hours, which corresponds to 24 real-world hours. This mechanic emphasizes time as a pivotal gameplay element, enhancing both intensity and urgency.
A distinctive feature of the game will be a timer integrated into the protagonist's wristwatch, constantly reminding players of the ever-ticking clock. This mechanic will amplify the sense of urgency while creating additional pressure, compelling players to make swift and calculated decisions. Far Cry 7 is poised to deliver an unparalleled experience where every second matters, and each choice carries significant consequences.
