Expedition 33 Devs Begin New Project After Clair Obscur

The producer of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has revealed that another project is on the horizon. Here's what the studio envisions for its future and the latest significant achievement for the game.

A New Game Is Definitely in the Works

The phenomenal success of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has been transformative for developer Sandfall Interactive, unlocking new opportunities for the French studio—most notably, the strong potential for a new title. In a May 27 interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Sandfall Interactive's COO and Producer, François Meurisse, shared what follows the Belle Époque-themed turn-based RPG.

"We will definitely create another video game," Meurisse confirmed. While it's too soon to specify details, the team is enthusiastic about the prospect. "I'm eager to explore the ideas we've already started formulating for our next project," he added.

Meurisse noted that the team acquired considerable experience and honed new skills throughout the project. "Many were junior developers when we began. We've learned how to collaborate effectively," he explained. "I'm excited to embark on the next venture because we'll start from a far more efficient foundation than when we founded the studio five years ago. Of course, expectations will be higher, which presents its own challenges. But I can say we have—and [Creative Director] Guillaume in particular has—some excellent concepts for the upcoming game."

It is not yet known whether this will be a direct sequel to Expedition 33 or an entirely new intellectual property. In the meantime, fans are curious about potential DLC, especially after Lead Writer Jennifer Svedberg-Yen recently gave an encouraging nod to the possibility of an expansion earlier this month.

3.3 Million Copies Sold in Just 33 Days

Expedition 33 continues to shatter expectations, recently reaching a milestone uniquely tied to its identity. On May 27, Sandfall Interactive announced via Twitter (X) that the game has sold 3.3 million copies in only 33 days.

The studio's post stated, "Seriously. As of today. We couldn’t make this up. This is yet another surreal moment made real by your incredible support. Thank you, everyone." Given the game's steady acclaim, this news is not entirely unexpected, yet the numerical symmetry adds a layer of magic to the achievement.
