Funcom confirms strong server preparations for Dune: Awakening's upcoming launch while gearing up for its large-scale beta weekend. Discover what systems are in place to handle player crowds and what content will be available during testing.

As Dune: Awakening approaches release, developer Funcom confirms robust preparations for potential server overload during June's launch. In a May 7 Steam update, the studio addressed critical questions from closed beta participants regarding server capacity and multiplayer scaling mechanics.
Players will initially select a home server from clusters organized into Worlds - with each World containing at least 20 interconnected servers enabling cross-server interactions.
Responding to community concerns about server queues and capacity limits, Funcom anticipates heavy traffic at launch but assures adequate infrastructure: "We'll have thousands of servers grouped into hundreds of Worlds available at launch."

"While individual Hagga Basin servers support 40 concurrent players, our dynamic population systems account for fluctuating player activity across time zones," explained Funcom. "During beta testing, we implemented safeguards to prevent overcrowding on popular servers by limiting new character creation when thresholds approach."
The survival MMO emphasizes large-scale multiplayer but accommodates solo playthroughs on Arrakis. Private servers won't be available initially but will arrive in post-launch updates.

Ahead of launch, Funcom revealed specifics about the upcoming large-scale beta weekend scheduled for May 9-12. Access methods include wishlisting on Steam, registering through the official website, or obtaining codes during the May 10 Global LAN event.
The beta will feature approximately 20-25 hours of early to mid-game content including:
