The director of Elden Ring Nightreign, Junya Ishizaki, has hinted at the potential addition of a two-player co-op mode following the game's launch. Dive deeper to learn about the seventh Nightfarer and what enhancements the development team is contemplating post-launch.
Elden Ring Nightreign might introduce a two-player co-op feature in future updates. In a recent interview with IGN on May 23, Director Junya Ishizaki acknowledged that the development team had initially overlooked the appeal of a two-player mode.
Currently, Elden Ring Nightreign supports solo play and three-player co-op, automatically matching a third player to duos. Ishizaki emphasized that the game's focus was on the three-player co-op and the traditional solo experience beloved by Souls fans, inadvertently sidelining the two-player option. He expressed regret for this oversight and shared, "So in putting all our efforts into that aspect, we kind of overlooked and neglected the duos aspect, but this is something that we are looking at and considering for post-launch support as well."
Although the game doesn't yet offer a native two-player mode, solo play remains a viable option for those unable to engage in the three-player co-op. Ishizaki noted that despite the game being structured for trios, players often operate independently, which naturally supports solo gameplay.
He elaborated, "So solo play is generally encouraged and is a natural part of the game loop, but also in general for those solo players — and this might be something that's difficult to notice in multiplayer — but the activeness and aggressiveness of enemies towards any one single player has been adjusted so that you don't find yourself in any unreasonable multi-foe fights."
Recognizing the increased challenge for solo players without teammates to revive them, the developers have included a self-revive mechanic scattered throughout the map, offering players more opportunities to continue their journey.
