After completing the main campaign and the Cruel difficulty Acts 1 through 3, players in *Path of Exile 2* unlock the Endgame and gain access to the Atlas of Worlds. Navigating the Atlas map, players will encounter various unique structures, each offering distinct gameplay mechanics and challenges. Among these, you'll find the Realmgate, Lost Towers, the Burning Monolith, and the elusive Citadels.

Citadels stand out as one of the most sought-after endgame objectives. While Lost Towers loom above the Fog of War, and the Realmgate and Burning Monolith appear near the Atlas start point, Citadels can be harder to spot. However, with the 0.1.1 update, Citadels will become more visible from a distance. If you're struggling to find them on your Atlas map, here are some tips to help you locate more Citadels in *PoE 2*.

What Are Citadels For In PoE 2?

In *Path of Exile 2*, Citadels are unique map nodes categorized into three types: Iron, Copper, and Stone. Each Citadel contains a different Boss, reintroducing campaign bosses with significant enhancements for endgame challenges. Defeating these bosses rewards players with a Crisis Fragment, crucial for unlocking the Burning Monolith, the home of the Atlas pinnacle boss, the Arbiter of Ash. This accomplishment completes the "Pinnacle of Flame" quest, unlocked upon entering the Burning Monolith map and inspecting the locked door.

  • Iron Citadel: Hosts Count Geonor (Act 1 boss), appearing as a large city with black walls.
  • Copper Citadel: Home to Jamanra, The Abomination (Act 2 boss), resembling a large encampment circling the map node.
  • Stone Citadel: Features Doryani (Act 3 boss), resembling a stone pyramid similar to the ziggurats found in Act 3.

To access a Citadel, players must use a Waystone of at least Tier 15 to travel to its map node and activate it. Like other Maps, you have only one attempt to navigate the map and defeat the boss without dying. These areas are not only essential for acquiring Crisis Fragments but also offer the chance to obtain exceptional loot from the bosses. Once completed, you cannot revisit a Citadel; instead, you'll need to continue exploring the Atlas to find another.

How To Find More Citadels In PoE 2

Path of Exile 2 Atlas Map

With the 0.1.1 update, spotting Citadels on the Atlas map becomes much easier. A large beacon of light will now appear above each Citadel, visible through the Fog of War, guiding players more efficiently to these locations.

If you don't see any Citadels near your current location, the best strategy to uncover more is to move in a straight line in one direction. This approach reveals the most Fog of War and expands your view of the Atlas map. Along your journey, make sure to visit any Lost Towers you encounter, as completing them clears a significant area of Fog around the tower, potentially revealing nearby Citadels.

Each type of Citadel tends to spawn in specific biomes, so if you're targeting a particular type for access to the Burning Monolith, consider navigating towards revealed areas of the appropriate biome:

  • Iron Citadels typically spawn in Grass or Forest biomes.
  • Copper Citadels are commonly found in Desert biomes.
  • Stone Citadels often appear along the coast of any biome.

Once you locate a Citadel, it's unlikely you'll find another nearby, as multiple Citadels rarely spawn on the same screen of the fully zoomed-out Atlas map. To find more after discovering one, head in a completely different direction from your previous path.

Thanks to the 0.1.1 update, you should now be able to spot Citadel beacons within a few screens of your revealed map areas. If you still can't see any Citadels within the Fog of War, continue following the strategy of moving in a straight line in a single direction until you spot a beacon guiding you to your next challenge.
