"Space Marine 2 Devs Enable Modding: Tau, Necrons, and Even a Fishing Mini-Game Planned"

Fans of *Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2* are buzzing with excitement following the developer's decision to provide modders with access to their internal editor, sparking hopes that the game could emulate the longevity of *Skyrim* through user-generated content. Game director Dmitry Grigorenko shared this news on the Space Marine 2 modding Discord, heralding it as "our biggest milestone yet in supporting the modding community."

Saber Interactive, the developer behind the game, has released the official Integration Studio for public use. This tool, which was previously used internally for all gameplay development, now empowers modders to manipulate everything from level scenarios and game modes to AI behavior, abilities, melee combos, user interfaces, and HUD elements. This release is poised to streamline and enhance the modding process for *Space Marine 2*.

Grigorenko expressed his commitment to the modding scene, stating, "Not long ago, I promised we would support the modding scene — and we meant it. Watching this community grow, push boundaries, and create incredible experiences has been both inspiring and humbling. We’re excited to see what you build next — whether it’s a cinematic campaign, wild new game mode, or something we never saw coming."

To kickstart the modding community, Grigorenko shared humorous concept art for a "Fishing With Daddy Calgar" mini-game, hinting at the playful possibilities now within reach. Marneus Calgar, the leader of the Ultramarines chapter of Space Marines, takes center stage in this whimsical concept.

To gain insight into the community's plans, I spoke with Tom, known as *Warhammer Workshop*, the modder behind the acclaimed *Astartes Overhaul* mod for *Space Marine 2*. Fresh off his latest release enabling 12-player co-op, Tom now has access to the scripting tools that govern mission dynamics and game components such as weapons and abilities.

Tom envisions a variety of innovative mods, including a roguelite mode where players start with a combat knife and face escalating challenges with the chance to acquire better weapons and resources. He suggested, "Killing a Carnifex might grant you a Heavy Bolter."

While a new cinematic campaign featuring Chaos is feasible, Tom noted that creating cutscenes remains challenging without access to animation tools. Nonetheless, he's planning to introduce new factions such as the Tau and Necrons, leveraging available character rigs.

The modding community is already in the race to create the "Fishing With Daddy Calgar" mini-game, embracing Grigorenko's playful challenge.

The response from *Space Marine 2* fans has been overwhelmingly positive. Despite the game's success and its status as one of the best-selling Warhammer video games, it was initially limited to three factions: Space Marines, Chaos, and the Tyrannids. With the editor now in modders' hands, fans can look forward to expanding the faction roster, including the teased Necrons.
