At today’s Summer Game Fest showcase, Square Enix stepped into the spotlight with an exciting new social deduction title—*Killer Inn*. This fresh murder mystery experience, developed by Tactics Studio, delivers a thrilling blend of strategy, suspense, and player interaction.
In *Killer Inn*, players are split into two factions: lambs and wolves. The wolves' objective is to eliminate all the lambs, while the lambs must uncover who among them are the hidden wolves. At the start of each match, no one knows who they can trust, setting the stage for intense deception and dramatic reveals.
Set within a sprawling mansion, players explore multiple rooms, searching for survival tools, gear, and weapons scattered in chests or available from merchants. Tokens earned through quest completion can be spent to unlock higher-tier chests containing even more powerful equipment. With over 20 unique characters to choose from—each possessing distinct abilities that can be upgraded mid-match—players have a wide range of tactical options. Every character can equip various weapons, from guns and grenades to knives, ensuring dynamic combat encounters between teams.
When a player is killed, their body leaves behind a clue pointing toward the identity of the murderer. These clues may include hair, skin, fingerprints, blood, or clothing fragments—pieces of evidence that surviving players can collect and analyze. Fortunately, the game features an intuitive UI system that tracks and cross-references these clues, highlighting suspicious players to help lambs narrow down potential wolves.
Once a lamb identifies a wolf, it becomes their mission to eliminate the threat before more teammates fall victim. However, killing another lamb as a non-wolf results in immediate elimination, discouraging reckless behavior and encouraging careful deduction. Safe zones are also present throughout the map—areas where wolves cannot kill lambs without being instantly exposed by nearby staff members.
Beyond survival, there's an alternative escape-based win condition: lambs can attempt to unlock and board a boat at the harbor to make their escape. However, coordinating this evacuation presents its own set of challenges, adding yet another layer of tension to the gameplay.
Currently, *Killer Inn* is preparing for a closed beta on Steam, though an official release date has yet to be announced. Stay tuned for further updates as more details emerge.
