Attention all discard players in *Marvel Snap*, the moon is shining brighter with the arrival of Khonshu, the God of the Moon. This new addition to the game is a game-changer for discard-centric decks, and while it's one of the most intricate cards released by Second Dinner, it's worth diving into the details of how Khonshu functions.
Each time Khonshu is discarded, he upgrades to a new phase:
With each discard, Khonshu returns to your hand, growing stronger and enhancing his On Reveal effect. This mechanic is reminiscent of Apocalypse, but with its own unique twist. The strategy with Khonshu usually involves discarding him once or twice before playing him on the final turn, reviving a card like Iron Man or Gorr the God Butcher to benefit from the power boost. Even though Khonshu can't revive a specific card, playing a 12-power final phase Khonshu on turn 6 to resurrect a 1-cost, 12-power Meek can often secure a victory.
Korg, Blade, Fenris Wolf, Juggernaut, Moon Knight, Lady Sif, Rock Slide, Silver Samurai, Darkhawk, Black Bolt, Stature, Khonshu. [ttpp]
The only Series 5 card in this list is Fenris Wolf, which is crucial because resurrecting an opponent’s discarded card from Moon Knight, Silver Samurai, or Black Bolt can often be a game-winning move. The strategy is straightforward: fill your opponent’s deck with rocks to boost Darkhawk, and discard Khonshu as often as possible. Moon Knight and Blade are key to hitting Khonshu repeatedly, but timing is crucial to avoid discarding less valuable cards.
Play Stature early to set up for Darkhawk on turn 5 and Khonshu on turn 6, reviving a card with 8-12 power. Since all these cards have less than 8 power, Khonshu directly buffs them.
While Khonshu may not fit into traditional discard over Apocalypse without energy ramp, there's room for experimentation. Here's a deck featuring Corvus Glaive for energy ramp:
Miek, Scorn, Blade, Morbius, Swarm, Moon Knight, Corvus Glaive, Lady Sif, Dracula, MODOK, Khonshu, Apocalypse. [ttpp]
Scorn, the only Series 5 card, can be swapped with other discard activators like Colleen Wing or X-23 for more energy ramp. This list leans towards traditional discard but relies heavily on getting Corvus Glaive out on turn 3 to enable playing Khonshu alongside other discard activators, boosting Apocalypse and flooding the board. Whether this setup will outperform traditional discard lists without Khonshu is yet to be seen, but it should be easy to get Khonshu to his final phase while keeping Apocalypse strong for Dracula.
