Capcom is actively working to enhance Monster Hunter Wilds' performance before its official launch, with a particular focus on reducing the game's demanding GPU requirements for PC players.

As announced on the game's official German Twitter (X) account on January 19, 2025, Capcom is diligently optimizing Monster Hunter Wilds. A recent video showcased smoother gameplay on PS5, highlighting improvements to the Prioritize Framerate mode which boosts fps at the expense of some graphical detail. This optimization effort extends to the PC version, with a key goal of lowering the recommended GPU requirements. The Twitter (X) post explicitly stated their intention to achieve similar performance improvements on PC and explore ways to reduce the necessary GPU power.

Currently, the minimum GPU requirements are an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super or an AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. Successful optimization could significantly broaden the game's accessibility, allowing players with lower or mid-range GPUs to enjoy the hunt. To further assist players, Capcom plans to release a free benchmarking tool to help determine optimal settings and PC compatibility. This proactive approach should alleviate concerns about needing costly hardware upgrades. For more in-depth information about Monster Hunter Wilds, check out our dedicated article.

The first open beta test for Monster Hunter Wilds (October and November 2024) revealed performance issues that left many players disappointed. Steam reviews highlighted low-poly character models and monsters, resulting in visuals described as sub-par, even compared to PS1-era graphics. In addition to the visual shortcomings, many reported significant fps drops and other performance problems, particularly concerning given the high-end PCs some players were using. While some players found workarounds, these often came at the cost of visual fidelity, further impacting the overall experience.

Capcom acknowledged these concerns on November 1, 2024, promising a fix for afterimage noise in certain environments when Frame Generation was enabled. They also confirmed that the full game would be significantly improved compared to the beta. This improvement is further evidenced by the announcement of Open Beta Test 2, scheduled for February 7-10 and 14-17 (PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam), featuring the Bird Wyvern Gypceros and a new, currently unannounced monster. Whether the recent performance enhancements will be fully implemented in this second beta remains to be seen.
