Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's Phenomenal Debut: A Million Copies Sold in a Day

A Resounding Success Across Platforms

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) has experienced a spectacular launch, achieving both critical acclaim and impressive sales figures across all platforms. Developer Warhorse Studios proudly announced on Twitter (X) that the game surpassed one million copies sold within 24 hours of its February 4, 2025 release. This achievement significantly outpaces its predecessor, which required over nine days to reach the same milestone.

SteamDB data reveals that KCD2 peaked at 176,285 concurrent players within a six-hour period, eclipsing KCD1's all-time peak of 96,069 players. At the time of writing, KCD2 held the 12th position among all PlayStation games in the U.S. as displayed on the PS Store homepage.

The game also garnered an impressive "Mighty" rating from OpenCritic, boasting a score of 89 and a 97% critic recommendation rate.

Addressing Critical Feedback

Despite the overwhelmingly positive reception from fans and critics, KCD2 has not been without its detractors. Creative Director Daniel Vávra responded publicly on Twitter (X) to some negative reviews, addressing criticisms that characterized the game as a "slog" or requiring more effort than anticipated. These reviews, from certain outlets, resulted in a lower-than-average score on OpenCritic, prompting Vávra's response and a pointed commentary on their journalistic standards.

Online Backlash and LGBTQ+ Content

Vávra also engaged with online criticism targeting KCD2's inclusion of same-sex romance options. He publicly challenged several Metacritic user reviews that labeled the game "historically inaccurate" and a product of "DEI" (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) initiatives. He urged fans to review the game and report any bot-generated negative comments on review platforms. He reiterated that the LGBTQ+ content is entirely optional and depends solely on player choices within the game's open-world medieval setting.
