The concept for OD is so unconventional that even Hideo Kojima is uncertain of its success. Here's the latest from Kojima on OD and what to expect from his other major project, PHYSINT.

Even its visionary creator is unsure if this ambitious horror title will succeed. In a December 7 interview with ananweb, Hideo Kojima shared fresh perspectives on OD and his future releases.
During its 10th anniversary "Beyond The Strand" livestream in September 2025, Kojima Productions debuted a new cinematic trailer for OD called "Knock."

Kojima noted the trailer, while seemingly straightforward, is packed with clues about the game's core mechanics—though he remains deliberately vague on specifics.
"I can't reveal exactly what it is yet, and I'm not even sure it will work. We've made stealth games and delivery games that felt unique, but their underlying systems were familiar. This time, we're revolutionizing the entire service model, which is a huge challenge. The trailer is full of hints—keep thinking about it, and you might just piece it together," he explained.
Kojima is, of course, referring to his iconic Metal Gear and Death Stranding series. While many developers stick to their proven genres, Kojima Productions is venturing into horror to create something truly unprecedented.

His collaboration with actor-director Jordan Peele, announced at The Game Awards 2023, has generated immense curiosity, particularly given Kojima's description of OD as "both a game and a movie."
In a July 2025 SSENSE interview, Kojima added that OD is "something completely different…people will either love it or hate it." With The Game Awards 2025 approaching, fans are hopeful for new revelations, mirroring the project's initial announcement.

Alongside OD, Kojima is collaborating with PlayStation Studios on PHYSINT, a stealth-action espionage game. Its return to the genre he perfected with Metal Gear led him to joke he could develop it "in his sleep."
"With PHYSINT being an espionage game, I could make it while sleeping," Kojima said with a laugh. "A soldier infiltrates, avoids detection, takes out enemies stealthily… The framework is inherently engaging and proven. But that familiarity also presents its own creative battle."

PHYSINT will introduce new innovations and, like OD, blend gaming with cinematic storytelling. Kojima elaborated, "We plan to collaborate with film professionals, both in front of and behind the camera. I'm curious how it will evolve. The world changes rapidly; the social themes I'm exploring might become reality sooner than we think."
While PHYSINT has yet to release a proper trailer, anticipation is high for Kojima's return to a genre he helped define, promising a fresh yet familiar experience for fans.
