MindsEye receives the first of several urgent updates focused on enhancing game performance following a troubled rollout.
Yesterday, the struggling developer Build A Rocket Boy expressed deep regret over the challenges players encountered with the new title, vowing to deliver multiple updates to resolve major performance hurdles, bugs, and AI quirks.
Meanwhile, the game's bumpy debut prompted the studio to halt sponsored broadcasts, while users reported successfully obtaining refunds, including from the typically rigid Sony.
Hotfix #1 is now available on PC (5.7GB) and PS5 (2GB), with Xbox Series X and S (4GB) versions coming soon, according to a Discord announcement from Build A Rocket Boy that included detailed notes.
“We've rolled out Hotfix #1 on a fast-tracked schedule as the opening step in a lineup of updates to incorporate your input and refine gameplay,” the post stated.
The update brings CPU and GPU efficiency gains along with memory tweaks across platforms. It also eases the CPR mini-game challenge, introduces an option to adjust or turn off Depth of Field, and corrects absent controls in the MineHunter and Run Dungeon segments.
For PC users, it adds alerts for systems without Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling enabled, as well as those with CPUs prone to instability.
The studio noted that this release tackles the memory leak responsible for many reported crashes. “Optimizing performance remains our top priority and a sustained effort that will evolve over time,” it explained.
“Expect regular, clear communications moving forward. Our crew is dedicated to swiftly addressing your concerns,” Build A Rocket Boy affirmed.
By late June, the developer anticipates further enhancements in stability and speed, a tuned 'hard' mode, smoother animations, and sharper AI responses.
The big question lingers: Can this studio, established by ex-Rockstar North leader Leslie Benzies, salvage MindsEye? On Steam—offering only a partial view of its traction—the game peaked at 3,302 concurrent players at launch but dipped to a 24-hour high of 786. As this piece goes live, just 435 are active, earning a 'mixed' review score.
